Description
ORIGINAL OWNER. I specially commissioned this instrument. Brian Cohen is a world renowned maker of fine classical guitars. Each one is made to the individual specifications of the player. Most models are based closely on those used by Torres and Hauser I.Built by Brian Cohen 1999, this instrument was specially commissioned. It is taken from an original Torres, no. FE08. The original guitar is regarded as Torres' finest masterpiece which was made specially for exhibition. This rendition/copy contains over 92 feet of handmade double-herringbone purfling, and over 100,000 individual wood inlay blocks set in the complicated geometric pattern on back, ribs and table. Refer to Jose Romanillos' book on Torres for more information about this guitar. This just may be the world's finest rendition of Torres' magnum opus - FE08. Spruce soundboard, seven radial struts, four piece birdseye maple back, decorated with doubleherring-bone pattern in dark and light wood, alternate mother-of-pearl figures with chequerboard pattern in the central motif of the rosette, and just a mastery in the making of the inlays and fitting of the ornaments. The sheer precision and execution of the decoration represents a staggering piece of craftsmanship. The head and rosette have an intrictate diminutive lozenge inlay an the head has mortices with square ramps. The bridge is decorated with two (2) mother-of -pearl dumb-bell shaped figures. The Rodgers machine heads are of silver and were one-of-a-kind specially made for this instrument. The dimensions are similar to the original Torres guitar. It produces an extraordinary tone; rich and complex, soothing with direct trebles. The broad spectrum of dynamic responses and wide variety of textures and colors make it delightful to play. The workmanship is dazzling, and the appointments are mesmerizing. There is a couple of professionally repaired cracks by Brian Cohen (instrument sent to England for these repairs by the original luthier)  to the face. otherrwise in perfect condition. Just as Torres obtained the bronze medal at the Sevilla Exhibition of 1858 for his magnificent instrument, Brian Cohen has proven with his rendition of FE08 that he is a remarkable luthier with unsurpassed talent, ingenuity, and imagination.
