Description
Late 1960's Hammond B3 with Leslie 147 cabinet. The keys and electronics are in perfect condition except for the speaker output panel, the tone generator needs to be oiled and due to a missing foot pedal key contact, one B flat foot pedal key does not work. Due to the need of tone generator oiling, two keys play two notes at the same time. Considering those factors to get the organ sounding perfect it needs about $600 worth of tuning up but never the less, everything works and will start right up right away, play, and sounds great. External condition fair but due to storage and mass touring the wood needs to be resurfaced. The original owner the late 1960’s band, “The Letterman”, had cut off the legs to reduce the weight and size but I had rebuilt them professionally and added about four inches in height to the organ. Also, the legs are not permanently set to the body of the organ. The legs have a very strong reconstruction with the original cross members of wood at the bottom, where the foot pedals hook up, and new cross members of wood at the top of the legs for strength, located on the left, right and back, but not front. The extra cross member of wood could not be located in the front because your knees will need to fit under the organ in order to play the foot pedals. The organ detaches from the legs like a lego set, by lifting from the mounted handles on the side. The legs of the organ are built like a table without the table top, connecting with the organ with strong, thick, and sturdy dowels like a lego set. Of course, if one desires one can glue the legs to the organ, I left it to be detachable to be easily transported. As you can see in the pictures, the metal tubes that ran the cables for the foot pedals are no longer there and the main speaker cable output panel, originally located at the back of the foot pedals, where moved up to the back wood panel of the organ. You can also see that the back panel had been cut out to custom fit the speaker outputs and that the output cable socket needs to be remounted. The bench is not original and a custom cable has been made to run the cabling from the foot pedals to the organ with a detachable mount to disassemble the organ if needed. As you can see in the picture the Leslie cable needs to be re mounted and the output socket is not original but still is a six pin socket and works. Considering that this organ has been altered from its original state, this greatly reduces the value of the organ but if one is not too concerned with the external condition and is primarily interested in the sound, perhaps strictly for recording or to just have a B3 to practice on for a low price, this is the Hammond B3 for you. The Leslie is a 147 cabinet, nearly identical to the 122 cabinet, except it was built with different parts for the oscillating subwoofer cylinder in which produces a crunchy organ sound featured in the famous Santana song “Samba Pa Ti”. The louder you play the crunchier and more growly it sounds. I have personally recorded on albums with it, I have also played other organs and I felt the 147 sounded better because you can have both a very clean rich sound and a very dark, crunchy, growly sound. All the belts in the Leslie are new and the electronics, subwoofer speaker, and tweeter are in original, great condition. This instrument is a monster, very loud and if you are a Hammond B3 enthusiast needing to buy one but can’t afford it, once again this the B3 is for you! I am leaving the country and it must be sold.
