Description
This bound volume of sheet music measures about 10 ½ by 14 inches. It weighs about 6 pounds. The old woman that I purchased it from said that it came from a Lippincott estate in San Francisco, California. Many of the pieces are not dated. The dates that I found range from 1847 to 1869. Below, you will see a partial list of the sheet music that is in the book. About half way through the book I found that I was running out of time and patience so I just made two more notes for the ones that I found that were dated. Many of the pieces are not dated. Many say that they are for piano and I think that they probably all for piano but I am not enough of a musician to say for sure that they are. There are no lyrics. Judging by the number of pages in the ones that I made notes for, I estimate that there are approximately 320 pages of music in this book. The spine and corners of the covers appear to be covered with leather. The first piece is the only one with an illustrated cover. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. Many of the individual pieces have very light to a few with very heavy mirror images burned on the opposite page of notes by the ink on the facing page. I have made a note of this phenomenon where I have seen it on the pieces that I have made notes for. The whole book is in the same general condition as the part that I made notes for except a couple of pieces are foxed (age spots) from age. There is some moderate wear on the covers that you can . You can also see how the edge of the back cover is pushed in a little. There is a little breaking of the paper covering the inside front hinge and the strings are exposed by the breaking of the paper covering the inside of the back hinge. Otherwise, the binding reasonably tight and sound with no signs of the book falling apart. Other than the one noted, I found one other modest tear in one of the pages. There is some spotting on the covers that you can see in my photos. Otherwise, my photos should give you a good idea of the general condition of this book.
