The only giveaway that she has been refinished is the paint-stick mark in the neck pocket. Lots of wear and checking and a feather light weight of 7.5 pounds. Serial number is in the 14,000 range. Very nice and old desert sand finish. The neck has been refretted and oversprayed but has the original decal and still has the original pencil date of 9-56. Nice tight neck pocket fit. An orginal finish desert sand Strat would be $70,000 or more. A new custom shop masterbuilt with these specs would run close to $10,000 and would not come close to the old growth and dried wood, aged magnets and investment potential of a real 1950's guitar. The new 2009 vintage guitar guide just came out and the book value for a plain old sunburst 1956 alder strat is $45,000 - $48,0000. Get the real deal for a lot less and a great investment you can have fun with!! Pots, pickups and 3-way switch are all original. Pot date 45th week of 1956. Gold guard has lacquer and lots of wear, not sure if it is original, plastic knobs and covers look right but are not original. Original single line Klusons back on her except for the high E that is a matched reissue peice. Original bridge and pat. pend. saddles. The alder body is light and has those deep hand shaped contours 1950's instruments are famous for. The refret is medium wire and this is a killer player with tone to the bone, a nice soft V-shaped neck even has some birds-eye. This is a great guitar with mojo to burn!
