HEART SONGSMelodies of Days Gone ByContributed by 25,000 peopleDear to the American PeopleAnd by them Contributed in the Search for Treasured SongsInitiated by theNATIONAL MAGAZINEThe Chapple Publishing Co.Boston forWORLD SYNDICATENY1909This is a special book given to a contributor who sent a song to this book. You can solve that mystery as to who it was and what song in here he/she contributed.LONG intro by MItchell Chapple explaining how this book came to pass. It took years to collect these songs, very interesting reading. Many full length pictures of singers in costumes and all of the time.I'll try to list some of them:Nellie MelbaGeraldine FarrarAdelina PattiAlice Nielson (as geishea)Mary Garden (as Indian maiden)Marcella SembrichEmma AbbottLuisa TetrazziniJesse Bartlett DavisEmma EamesLillian Nordicaand I could have easily missed some!518 pages with three indices and musical terms defined. This is just the most fascinating book with songs like 'Meerschaum Pipe'and'Ah! I Have Sighed to Rest Me'There have got to be some real gems in here! REALLY for the older music enthusiast who wants to know the top songs America loved at the turn of the century. Some songs bawdy, some hymns, really covers a broad range. AND these were songs from immigrants, many, so from 'The Old Country'.The spine needs work. Insides are just fine.Male and Female voices suggested in certain songs. Many verses of some songs, all here!A GEM for the music collector, historian, pianist, Victorian era lover...I have never seen one of these.
